About FlightEdge

Built by Pilots, for Pilots

We're pilots, and we believe two things: data-driven decisions and scenario-based training make flying safer. FlightEdge turns 400,000+ real accident and incident reports into scenarios for the airports you fly and the airplanes on your line.

It started with the data

The data for safer flying already exists. The NTSB has investigated every civilian aircraft accident since 1962, NASA's ASRS holds nearly a quarter-million pilot narratives, and the FAA tracks the smaller events the NTSB doesn't. But it was never built to be searched — PDF reports, sixty-year-old database formats, fixed-width files. A pilot asking "has anything bad happened at KORH in a C172 lately?" is in for an evening of combing through PDFs.

We built ClearQuery to fix that: 2.2M+ records — 400,000+ accident and incident events, every US public-use airport, and the full FAA aircraft registry — sorted, cleaned, geocoded, aircraft-matched, and searchable in plain English. Free for individual pilots.

And then FlightEdge

ClearQuery answers questions for a working pilot. FlightEdge answers a different one: making sure you've already chair-flown the failures that happened at your home airport, in the airplane you fly, before you ever meet one in the air.

That's FlightEdge. Real NTSB and ASRS events become branching decision-point scenarios — tagged to the ACS task they teach, matched to the airports you fly and the airplane on your line. You see the decision the real pilot faced, commit to a call, and find out what actually happened.

What we believe

Data-based scenario training leads to safer flying. Most accidents repeat patterns the data already documents, and an immense amount of that data exists — it's just hard to use. A pilot who has worked through those decisions on the ground — at their own airport, in their own airplane — makes better calls in the air. Hence FlightEdge.

We're fortunate to be part of the aviation community. Aviation has given us a lot, and we want to give back — it's why we developed ClearQuery and FlightEdge, and provide much of the content at no cost.

The team

We're a small team in Boston, MA and St. Petersburg, FL — pilots and data engineers who fly the airplanes we build this for. We're hiring: if you've spent real time in the cockpit or worked with aviation safety data, email us.

Get in touch. Sales, partnerships, content questions, or you just want to walk through a scenario together — email [email protected] or head to our contact page.
