How we handle your data.
FlightEdge is a scenario-based training product for pilots, operated by ClearQuery, Inc. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Last updated 2026-07-13.
1. Who we are
FlightEdge is operated by ClearQuery, Inc., a Delaware corporation. Questions about this policy go to [email protected].
2. What we collect — browsing without an account
- Anonymous session ID — a random identifier stored in your browser's localStorage. It groups your scenario activity across page reloads but is not linked to your identity.
- Scenario activity — which scenarios you open, the decision you choose, and whether you reach the end. This is what powers the aggregate "how other pilots decided" split you see after committing a choice.
- First-party page analytics — the pages you visit, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent string. This is our own beacon, not a third-party analytics product, and we do not use it for advertising.
- Email attribution — if you arrive from a link in one of our emails, the link carries a token so we can tell that the visit came from that email. That token is tied to your subscription.
3. What we collect — accounts
You can create an account with Google or with just your email (no password). We store:
- Identity — your email address, and if you sign in with Google, the display name and profile photo Google provides.
- Pilot profile (optional) — the aircraft type, tail number, and home airport you choose to add in Settings. These personalize your scenarios and weekly email; you can leave them blank or remove them at any time.
- Training activity — the scenarios you play and the decisions you make, associated with your account.
- Email preferences — whether you're opted in to the weekly scenario email, and delivery/open events for the emails we send you (via our email provider).
- Session data — sign-in sessions with timestamps and user-agent, so you stay signed in securely.
4. How we use it
- To run the product — show you scenarios, remember your decisions, and display aggregate decision splits (always aggregated, never identifying you to other users).
- To send you the weekly scenario email and, if you've set a pilot profile, personalized safety intel for your airplane and home field — only while you're opted in.
- To improve the product — understand which scenarios people engage with so we can build better ones.
- To meet legal obligations — respond to lawful requests.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
5. Who we share it with
- Subprocessors we use to operate the service: Railway (US cloud hosting), Cloudflare (CDN and edge hosting), Google (optional sign-in), and Twilio SendGrid (email delivery). Each processes data only to provide its service to us.
- Law enforcement — only when compelled by a lawful order, and after notifying you unless legally prohibited.
6. Where data is stored
Data is stored in the United States. We use encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest, and access to production systems is restricted.
7. Data retention
- Account data (email, profile, training activity): kept while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Anonymous scenario activity: kept in aggregate form (counts per decision), which contains nothing identifying.
- Email delivery events: retained for up to 24 months for deliverability and abuse prevention.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to processing or withdraw consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days. You can stop the weekly email at any time from Settings or the unsubscribe link in any email.
9. Children
FlightEdge is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
10. Cookies
We use browser storage strictly for session management (keeping you signed in), your theme preference, and the anonymous session ID described above. We do not run third-party advertising cookies.
11. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when we make material changes and post the updated date at the top of this page. For significant changes affecting account holders, we'll email you.
